Fall 2016 Pilots: New Tools for Teaching and Learning

Are you interested in helping us test out new tools for teaching and learning? Contact us to learn more about the 2016–17 pilots of our Image Media Manager application, Flashcards, and three Annotation tools, each of which can be integrated into your Canvas site via LTI.

Annotation

We are piloting three Annotation tools in Fall 2016: AnnotationsX (now with video annotation!), CritiqueIT, and Perusall. For more on each, including capabilities, limitations, and use cases, visit the Annotation page on the Academic Technology for FAS website.

Image Media Management

HUIT Academic Technology, in collaboration with University partners in teaching, learning, and research, has developed an LTI application to enable faculty to upload, curate, and present collections of images and associated metadata within Canvas and other LTI-compliant learning management systems. The LTI Image Media Manager, which exposes image data via International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) APIs, and utilizes Mirador as the default image viewer, provides a robust foundation for media management and display. If you are interested in using this tool for your course, please contact .

Flashcards

Flashcards are one of the many methods students have traditionally utilized to help themselves learn new vocabulary, images, or other information. It allows them to repeatedly quiz themselves and built a base on which they can build their higher levels of learning. This modern incarnation of flashcards allows teachers to easily create cards and organize them into decks and collections to be shared and used by students.
