Library Lounge is a pilot online learning program at Penn Libraries that prepares students to excel as researchers. Integrated through Canvas, Library Lounge facilitates learning through videos and a gateway to personal exchange with librarians. In this presentation, we will provide an overview of our approach to instructional partnerships with faculty, staffing, evaluation and other aspects of the program. We will also share lessons learned and conclude the presentation with Q&A.
Catrice Barrett, Ph.D. – With the Penn Libraries' Collaborative Classroom as a focus, Catrice is building a strong program to support faculty in using active learning pedagogies and online technologies. Catrice collaborates with faculty and teaching librarians, developing effective teaching practices, and doing research to demonstrate impact. Her background in teaching, materials development, and course design is international in scope, including institutions such as Wuhan University in China, Penn, Temple University and various non-profits in Atlanta and Philadelphia. Her prior work in software engineering inspired Catrice's technological initiatives in developing online learning and collaboration environments for both students and teachers, conducting research on students in online learning environments, and working with educators to connect practice with research evidence. Catrice holds a Ph.D. in Educational Linguistics and teaches courses in the Collaborative Classroom for Penn's Graduate School of Education and the Hispanic and Portuguese Studies Department.
Becky Moulder – As a Courseware Instructional Designer, Becky Moulder provides central support for Canvas, the university’s learning management system. Becky is also responsible for instructional design consultations for individual courses, supporting Library Lounge initiatives, and leading educational technology workshops offered through Weigle Information Commons. Becky earned her B.A. in English/Professional Writing from Kutztown University and M.S. in Instructional Technology from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia.
